Ways to renovate your backyard pool area!

Posted by Jeff Holloway

The backyard pool area is a major component in the whole environmental aesthetic of your home. A poorly maintained, outdated or boring pool area can keep you from getting full enjoyment from your space. The good news is that there are plenty of ways to spice up your backyard pool, from simple touches to major renovations. When you are done fixing up your area, you’ll be amazed at the long-lasting difference. Here are a few changes you can make to breathe some new life and beauty into your backyard pool area:

Add Lighting

  • Just as with the inside of your house, a change in lighting on the outside can make a dramatic difference in feel and appearance. One way to change the lighting is to install lights inside your pool. There is nothing quite like swimming in a lit-up pool on a steamy, otherwise dark summer night. Many pool lighting systems also offer the ability to change the color of the light by placing different filters over the light source. An iridescent red, blue, or green pool is a beautiful sight to behold, and it is sure to be a hit at any pool party. You can also change the lighting on the outside of the pool. There are many different styles and types of lights available, so you can find something to fit the appearance you desire. A well-lit pool area doesn’t just improve the look of backyard, it makes it available for your use at any hour of the day. Proper lighting is also an essential for poolside safety.

Change Pool Tile or Coping

  • One surprisingly simple way to improve the look of your backyard is to change the color of the tiles in your pool, or the coping that borders it. The coloring of tiles and coping can fade over time, so in that sense a fresh change can add some new life to your pool. Colors also come in and out of style, so sometimes an update is necessary for a more modern look. Another common reason for a tile or coping change is when you change the color of your house. Either matching the color or providing an interesting contrast can give your yard a fresh look.

Add a Deck, Slide or Waterfall

  • These are all more dramatic and expensive options, but they can also totally transform the look of your backyard. If you don’t have a deck by your pool area, it is definitely something to strongly consider. New decks look great, and they are also ideal for parties, dinners or sunbathing before a dip in the pool.Adding a waterfall is all about the look, although it can also help with water circulation in your pool. Some pool features combine a waterfall or rock wall and a slide. These provide a boost in looks and a fun place for the kids (and adults) to play. Waterfall features are truly stunning, and will keep you and your guests raving about your backyard.

As you can see, there are many different options for remodeling and revitalizing your pool. Though the investment in some cases can be steep, the rewards are plentiful. With a remodeled pool, you will find yourself enjoying your time spent in the backyard more than ever, and a beautiful backyard will add value to your home if you ever choose to sell. Whether it is a small effort that takes a short period of time, or a large renovation that takes a while, remodeling your backyard and pool area is a decision that will pay off in the long run.
